A rifle in the passenger seat of a parked car put the fear in a few people in downtown Victoria on Tuesday.

Police responded to a 911 call around 11:30 a.m. in the 1400-block of Store St., but the vehicle had already left.

Moments later, the driver and vehicle were spotted and pulled over. VicPD officers seized a .22 calibre rifle with a box of ammunition, and are considering unsafe firearm storage charges against a 59-year-old Victoria man.

Const. Mike Russell called the traffic stop "tense."
