Peg Orcherton re-elected as school board chair

The board held its annual elections Dec. 10.

Peg Orcherton, a school trustee since 2002, was acclaimed as chair for the Board of Education of School District 61 (Greater Victoria) for her second term. The board held its annual elections Dec. 10.

“Without question, much of the last year in education has been extraordinarily challenging and without a doubt, these challenges will continue,” said Orcherton. “Trustees have worked hard to meet those challenges and irrespective of differing opinions, we always strive to keep students needs first and foremost in our decision making. In spite of these challenges, over the past year, the board of education continues to move forward on progressive initiatives in public education.”

Bev Horsman was re-elected as vice-chair, Elaine Leonard was re-elected as chair of the operations, policy and planning committee and Catherine Alpha was re-elected as chair of the education policy development committee.

Tom Ferris is the board representative for the British Columbia Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) and the Vancouver Island Labour Relations Association (VILRA). Horsman will remain as the British Columbia School Trustees’ Association Provincial Councillor (BCSTA).
