Phone fraudsters posing as Microsoft

Scams like these are really prevalent in all shapes and sizes, say police

Scammers have been contacting Victoria residents under the guise of Microsoft employees, warning victims that their computers have been uploading illegal content, in order to gain access to their system and pull credit card and other personal information.

“Scams like these are really prevalent in all shapes and sizes,” said Const. Mike Russell, Victoria Police Department spokesperson.

“We advise people to hang up the phone or put the email in their junk folder. We don’t get involved unless the scam progresses.”

Phone numbers are chosen at random.
