Police cruiser slips over ice-coated road in Fairfield, hits guardrail

Vehicles suffer little damange, no injuries reported
Victoria Snow Traffic 2
Traffic moves slowly along Cook Street in Victoria as snow falls lateTuesday morning. The greater Victoria area can expect snow showers to continue over the next few days.

Victoria police were not immune to weather woes following Wednesday morning’s heavy snowfall.

A police cruiser was parked on Fairfield Road at Moss Street to block westbound traffic after two motorists lost control on the ice-coated surface, hit a curb and slid into a guardrail around 5 p.m.

The stationary police cruiser also slipped down the street and hit the same guardrail in Fairfield. Police say all three vehicles suffered little damage, and there were no injuries.

The treacherous section of roadway was closed down, and B.C. Transit buses and other vehicles were rerouted.

Victoria city sanding crews arrived an hour after the crashes to apply salt and sand. Police say sanding crews were overwhelmed by requests throughout the day to tend to roads.
