Police dog leads to liquor store thieves

The Saanich police canine unit helped make a few quick arrests after a pair of liquor store break-ins early Monday morning.

After officers responded to an alarm at the BC Liquor Store at 1087 McKenzie Ave., the surrounding area was cordoned off. Zeke, a police dog, immediately picked up the trail of the suspects and led police directly to a group of four young men who had been stopped by a nearby officer. All four were arrested. Police soon discovered that a second liquor store, in Saanich Centre at Quadra St. and MacKenzie Ave., had also been broken into. A review of surveillance video from that incident identified two suspects from the four apprehended after the second theft,

A 15-year-old Victoria resident and a 16-year-old Langford resident, have been charged with break and enter and are awaiting a court date.
