Police are looking for the owner of a wallet dropped by a man suspected of smashing a window at Victoria Bingo late last month.
Just after midnight on Dec. 29, police were called to the bingo hall on Tillicum Road by a witness who reported seeing two youths smash a window using a baseball bat. The young man and woman fled but police spotted nearby a suspect nearby matching the female’s description. At the same time, a police officer noticed a man hiding in the bushes nearby.
He managed to escape after being confronted by the police dog. However,
after discussions with the young woman and the witness, police believe they recovered a wallet at the bingo hall that belongs to the male suspect, a 19-year-old Langford man.
“We’re seeking this male. We have his wallet in our care … and he’s welcome to come and claim it,” Sgt. Dean Jantzen said.
The only piece of ID in the wallet was a birth certificate, Jantzen said, so officers don’t have a current address. However, if the man does not come forward in the coming days, a warrant for the man’s arrest will be issued.
Saanich police headquarters is located at 760 Vernon Ave.
