Police, paramedics revive man after assault

When Victoria police arrived at the scene of an assault early Wednesday morning, they came across a man unconscious, not breathing, and lacking all vital signs.

It started at 3 a.m. when reports came in about a loud ruckus in a room at City Metro Suites, at 2828 Rock Bay Ave. Inside, the unconscious man lay still. Several other people were inside the room.

Police performed CPR until paramedics arrived and restarted the man’s breathing. The 41-year-old Victoria resident was rushed to Victoria General Hospital and remains in serious condition with head injuries.

Officers identified a 35-year-old man from the West Shore as a suspected assailant. They arrested him inside the suite without incident.

Investigators aren’t sure whether the injured man and suspect knew each other, said Const. Mike Russell.

A list of charges, including assault, are being contemplated against the suspect.
