The Victoria police are warning downtown businesses to watch out for fake American money.
Since Nov. 1, police have dealt with 24 separate counterfeit currency files — almost all of which were United States bills.
The majority of the counterfeit bills were $20 bills, with some $50 bills as well. They were being used specifically at cash-based businesses, such as convenience stores, fast food restaurants and gas stations.
Investigators believe there is a close correlation between the street-level drug trade and the distribution of the fake currency.
