Possible attempted abduction in Central Saanich

The Sidney North Saanich RCMP need the public’s help to identify a vehicle and driver in regards to an incident that happened near Stautw and Church Road in Saanichton.

Around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 11 a youth was approached by a male driving a van and was asked to get in. According to an RCMP news release, the youth did not recognize the driver, never entered the vehicle, immediately left the area, found an adult and reported the incident to police.

The youth was an 11-year-old male, confirmed Cpl. Chris Manseau, Sidney North Saanich RCMP.

Michelle McDormand, the youth’s aunt, told the PNR over Facebook that after her nephew left church on Sunday to go to his mother’s house he was approached by the male suspect driving a black van. It was then he returned to the church immediately, telling adults what had just happened.

Description of suspect:

  • First Nations male
  • Approximately 30 years old
  • Mustache and beard
  • Black ball cap with orange dots around it

Description of suspect vehicle:

  • Black van with tinted back and side windows
  • Possibly had sunroof
  • Sticker or picture on back of the van near the license plate
