Victoria’s annual Pride Week ends Sunday (July 6) with a parade through downtown, from Government Street and Pandora Avenue to MacDonald Park, where the week’s events will culminate with the Pride Festival.
The parade is held as a march of solidarity between B.C.’s LGBTQ community, local businesses, and non-profit organizations.
It starts at noon, when participants will gather at the 1400 block of Broad Street.
The festival will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. at MacDonald Park, the destination of the parade. Pride Week organizers Victoria Pride Society boast 150 vendors this year, in addition to musical acts and a 3000-person beer garden. There will also be attractions geared towards children.
Victoria Pride Society will be continuing work on their history project at the festival, where a booth will be available for visitors to share stories of the city’s early LGBTQ community with practicum student Nicole Naud. The group hopes to collect stories, photographs and videos for a multimedia history project set to debut at next year’s festival.
