‘Prolific offender’ nabbed after police chase in Sooke

A “prolific offender” faces new charges following a string of property crimes in Sooke.

Witnesses reported they observed a man breaking into a residence in the 3700 block of Otter Point Road on Jan. 18. The man was arrested by police and later released.

On Feb. 6, around 3:30 p.m., while responding to a complaint of a suspicious circumstance, RCMP officers observed the man, who is known to police, riding a stolen scooter. The suspect was also wanted on several arrest warrants.

Despite officers’ attempts to stop the man, the suspect fled., later abandoning the scooter and continuing to flee on foot in the 8100 block of West Coast Road.

After a lengthy foot pursuit, the man was taken into custody with the assistance of a police dog.

Kevin Fee, 51, has been charged with failing to stop for police, break and enter, breach of a release order, possession of property obtained by crime, and obstruction of a peace officer.

Fee remains in custody until his next court appearance.

“There was incredible work done by the various investigational teams, through the partnership between frontline officers and the police dog services, we were able to successfully and safely bring the suspect into custody,” said Sgt. Kevin Shaw, operations NCO of the Sooke RCMP.
