The Regional Crime Unit arrested a man last week they believe is responsible for a series of theft from vehicles.
Mitchell Leigh MacLeod, along with a second unknown suspect, is believed to have broken into seven vehicles parked in an underground lot of a View Royal apartment building in the early hours of Aug. 18.
Officers with the Capital Regional District Regional Crime Unit reviewed surveillance footage and successfully identified MacLeod, as he was already known to officers.
The 22-year-old was arrested Wednesday (Aug. 21) in the 600-block of Battery St. with the assistance of the Victoria Police Department and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. The Regional Crime Unit executed a search warrant of his home on Battery Street and seized clothing that matched those worn by the suspect during the thefts, as well as property believed to be stolen from the vehicles at the View Royal apartment.
MacLeod was charged with two counts of breach of probation, and one count each of break and enter and committing theft. Police anticipate more charges will be added as the investigation continues.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify the second male suspect, and to locate the owners of the recovered stolen property.
