Saanich man faces sexual assault, drug trafficking charges

VicPD canine cop tracks suspect in downtown Victoria

Victoria police have arrested a 21-year-old Saanich man for sexual assault.

Investigators remain tight-lipped about the assault, but reveal a Victoria canine officer located a man, who matched a description of a sexual assault suspect, near Pandora Avenue and Blanshard Street at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 15).

“When searched the officers found six ‘dime’ bags of marijuana in the man’s pocket,” Victoria police Deputy Chief John Ducker said on the department’s online blog.

The suspect was taken to the Royal Jubilee Hospital for a medical assessment.

He has since been released from police custody on a promise to appear in court to face charges of sexual assault and trafficking in a controlled substance.
