Girls: get out there

Pro-G event encourages girls to get active and take risks

Sew a tutu, walk a slack line, ride a unicycle or learn how to hula hoop. Girls aged 11 to 16 are invited to step outside their comfort zones during Circus-themed Pro-Girls day in Saanich Feb. 17.

“Pro girls is all about getting girls out and getting them active,” said Saanich youth services programmer Alana Stewart. “We’ve always wanted to get them active and we find when they’re surrounded by other girls they’re more inclined to try new things.”

Pro-G day is a girls-only event where girls are inspired to be themselves, Stewart said. A similar all-boys event happens later in the year.

The day of alternate recreation workshops runs from  9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Royal Oak Middle School and costs $10 including lunch. For more information, contact Stewart at Alana.Stewart@Saanich.ca or 250-475-7111.
