Saanich's retiring chief administrative officer has already begun work at his next job.

Tim Wood, who's been the municipality's top civil servant since 2002, was named this week to the provincial government's audit council.

The council will oversee B.C.’s new office of the Auditor General for Local Government.

Wood, along with four other council members, will first make a recommendation to the minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development as to who should be appointed the municipal auditor general.

According to a ministry statement, the audit council will ensure the independence of the auditor general, and "will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of the AGLG by reviewing and providing comments on performance audits, annual reports and service plans."

Wood retires as Saanich's chief administrator on May 31. He will be replaced by current finance director Paul Murray.
