Strike averted in Greater Victoria schools

Talks prove fruitful as support workers agree to contract with district

There will be no school shutdown in Greater Victoria tomorrow (Jan. 20).

The Greater Victoria School District reached a tentative deal Friday with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 947, which had served 72-hour strike notice last week. The district's website stated all classes will be in session Monday.

Union members had previously rejected the contract based on changes to their prescription-drug benefits package.
