A lone thief made off with an estimated $10,000 in cigarettes and lottery tickets after a smash and grab in Saanich early Saturday morning.

An alarm company alerted police around 5:30 a.m., about the break-in at the Fairway Market on McKenzie Avenue at Cedar Hill Road.

The store was entered through a broken window  and “a substantial haul of cigarette cartons and individual cigarette packages were stolen along with numerous books of lottery tickets,” police said Saturday afternoon.

Video surveillance shows a single individual entering the store. The suspect is between 5’6” and 5’8” and wore a black hoodie with an emblem on the hood, black gloves, blue jeans and a black bandana covering his or her face.
