Saanich Fire Department firefighters were able to practise their skills in realistic but not life threatening surroundings Wednesday during day long training exercises in a house in the 3300 block of Quadra Street that was scheduled for demolition.

Senior officers kept a close eye on the men as they carried hoses into rooms filled with smoke, used axes and piercing nozzles and practiced quick window exits called bailouts. They were also called upon to carry ladders, hook up hoses and, of course, at the end, clean up and put away all their equipment.
