Two people arrested after violent stabbing in Esquimalt

Man recovering in hospital with multiple knife wounds

A violent stabbing Wednesday evening in Esquimalt left a man in hospital. Two other men were arrested.

Police were called to an area near the Esquimalt Recreation Centre, 527 Fraser St., at 7 p.m. With a canine unit, officers rushed to the scene, where they found a 19-year-old from Saanich bleeding on the ground from several stab wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and is now recovering.

Two knives were found at the scene as well.

Nearby, Victoria police found a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old teen boy and arrested them as suspects in the stabbing.

Police say the attack was targeted to the young man.

Robbery and aggravated assault charges could be recommended against both suspects. The elder had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for breach of court conditions. Both have long track records of run-ins with police.
