A female pedestrian has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car on Goldstream Avenue near Langford Lake on Thursday morning. Emergency crews were performing CPR on the woman en route to Victoria General Hospital.

Update:

West Shore RCMP is now reporting that a 48-year-old woman has died after being hit by a car in the 1100-block of Goldstream Ave, Thursday morning.

The woman, whose name has not yet been released, was a resident of Langford. She was struck by a male driver, 50 years old, from Kamloops who was driving a 2003 Nissan Murano.

"This is an unfortunate accident that will have a significant impact to many," said West Shore RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz. "We will continue to investigate the factors to try and bring the family some answers."

A traffic collision analyst was called in to help with the investigation, which had Goldstream Avenue closed off for about three hours from the Trans-Canada Highway off ramp to Spencer Road. All traffic is now open.

Police say there is no evidence to suggest alcohol or drugs as a factor for either person involved.

The collision took place at about 8:30 a.m. at the bottom of a hill by Langford Lake, between Powers Lane and Wenger Terrace. Details are limited at this time, but police say it appears glare from the early morning sun may have been a factor, with the driver not seeing the pedestrian until the last moment.

Speed is not believed to be a factor. There is no word on whether the woman was on the shoulder or the road.

Police are reminding both drivers and pedestrians to be careful in poor driving conditions.
