UPDATE: Victim comes forward in purse-snatching: Victoria police

Truck driver witnessed robbery early Tuesday morning in Fairfield

Victoria police need the public's help in solving a nearly morning robbery in Fairfield.

Just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday, a truck driver called 911 to say he'd witnessed a man "rip an object" from a woman's hands in the 1000-block of Fairfield Rd., said Const. Mike Russell.

The suspect then jumped into a Volvo 850GL and drove west on Fairfield Road, then north on Vancouver Street, the witness said.

"As the investigation progressed, officers located items of clothing around Fairfield that were a likely match to the suspect," Russell said. "Those were seized as evidence."

Police spoke with the victim, a 33-year-old Victoria woman, on Wednesday, but the suspect remains at large.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, short hair and wearing a dark toque and grey Stanfield-type wool sweater.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call VicPD's non-emergency line at 250-995-7654, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
