Victor-Brodeur kids get counselling after crash

School bus hit man crossing road at Craigflower and Admirals

About 50 kids from Ecole Victor-Brodeur gathered for a counselling session Thursday morning, after their school bus hit a man crossing the road.

The collision happened at the intersection of Craigflower and Admirals roads just after 8 a.m. Thursday. The Garden City bus was en route to the francophone school from its route through Langford.

“These types of accidents do not happen very often,” said Pierre Claveau, public relations director with the Conseil scholaire francophone, which oversees Victor-Brodeur.

“The simple fact that you see somebody being hurt under any circumstances … is traumatic for a child. We are taking all precautions to make sure they are counselled property.”

The 50 students who were on the bus, plus a few classmates who might have been affected by the incident, were called together to talk to counsellors.

The school also sent a note to parents, advising them of the incident.

Victoria police investigated the collision and found the driver was not at fault. Officers believe the man might have stepped out in front of the bus, which was turning left. The man was in a marked crosswalk and the walk light was on.

The man was taken to hospital.
