Victoria city Coun. Charlayne Thornton-Joe is adding her voice to many across the country speaking out against shark finning.

Recently, controversy erupted in the national media over the practice of serving shark fin soup, a delicacy in some Chinese restaurants.

The proposed federal Bill C-380 prohibits the practice of shark finning and the importation of shark fin.

Thornton-Joe's motion, to urge the prime minister to back the bill, was supported unanimously by council.
