Victoria council wants a say in pipeline talks

City hoping to gain intervenor status in Trans Mountain hearings

Victoria city council is applying for official intervenor status during the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion Project hearings.

Council unanimously passed a resolution Jan. 30 to apply for intervenor status for the Edmonton-to-Burnaby pipeline project. If approved, the twinned pipeline would increase oil tanker traffic in the Strait of Juan de Fuca from five to about 25 tankers per month.

In December, Vancouver passed a resolution to act as an intervenor in the Trans Mountain hearings as well.
