Victoria man arrested for flaunting replica handgun

Third incident involving replica firearm this month

A 29-year-old Victoria man was arrested flaunting a replica handgun in the 900-block of Fort St. Sunday.

Victoria Police Department arrested the man at 1 p.m. on Broughton Street, and found the fake firearm in a dumpster nearby.

The man was in violation of a conditional sentence order, said Sgt. Colin Brown.

"Many of these replica firearms are increasingly made to appear indistinguishable from the real thing," Brown said. "We cannot take chances with public safety so leave these replicas at home.”

This is the third such incident this month.

On April 5, a minor was arrested on Chambers Street with a replica handgun. On Saturday, an altercation between two men in Saanich led to one man pulling a replica firearm as well.
