A Victoria mother has been arrested in connection with the death of her 18-month-old daughter last year.

On Sept. 16, 2015, Victoria police were called to the 1200 block of Vista Heights in the Hillside-Quadra neighbourhood just before 6 a.m. to check on the welfare of the people in the home. Once inside, they discovered an 18-month-old girl, who passed away despite efforts to resuscitate her. The girl’s mother was also taken to hospital at the time. Few details about the incident have been released.

The Crown has now approved charges of first-degree murder against the toddler’s mother, who was arrested yesterday.

The mother’s name has not been released due to a publication ban.
