Victoria set to launch council meeting webcasts

City will be next Greater Victoria municipality to provide shut-ins with live council coverage

The City of Victoria is moving into the 21st century of civic engagement, launching webcasts of all council and committee meetings this summer.

The video will be both available live and through online video archives at victoria.ca.

“This initiative will help to ensure that our decision-making remains open, informed and understood,” said Mayor Dean Fortin.’

The online archive will be keyword searchable and include an RSS function for easy access, said city communications director Katie Josephson.

The webcasting contract was awarded to Granicus Inc. and will cost approximately $17,000 annually.
