The debris from Malaysia Airlines' MH-17 plane

(VIDEO) Canada mourns victim on Malaysia Airlines flight; Ottawa calls it ‘brutal act of terror’

All 298 passengers on board flight MH-17 perished in the tragedy, including one 24-year-old from Ontario named Andrei Anghel.

Canada formally addressed last week’s airborne tragedy, when Malaysia Airlines’ flight MH-17 was shot down over Ukraine. All 298 passengers on board perished, including one Canadian man – a 24-year-old medical student from Ontario named Andrei Anghel, who was studying in Romania.

The federal government in Ottawa called the event “a brutal act of terror” on Friday.

“Whatever has happened, whatever caused this attack, whoever unleashed the explosives that brought down the plane, it is an act of terror in our view,” said Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander.

“We are horrified by this tragedy and our hearts go out to the Canadian family affected and to all of those around the world who’ve lost loved ones.”
