View Royal woman falls for grandparent scam

Last week a View Royal woman was victimized and lost $8,000 in the scam.

The West Shore, among other communities in Greater Victoria has been hit with the fraudulent grandparent scam.

Residents are receiving calls from people pretending to be a child or grandchild who has gotten in trouble overseas and requires money.

Last week West Shore RCMP received three calls from residents who received these phone calls. One was a woman in View Royal who sent out $8,000.

If you receive these phone calls do not sent money," said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz. "Make contact with other family members to confirm or deny that it's true."
