Wedding ring returned to Victoria break-and-enter victim

VicPD locate piece of ring at local pawn shop, track down suspect and find the rest

The victim of a break-and-enter in Victoria had her wedding ring returned to her by police, albeit in more than one piece.

The woman, who lives in the 1200-block of Yukon St., called police Monday morning to report someone had broken into her home.

After getting a detailed description of the woman's wedding ring, VicPD’s Crime Reduction Unit found a piece of the ring at a local pawn shop.

"Unfortunately, part of the ring was removed," said Const. Mike Russell.

Officers identified the suspect and executed a search warrant at his residence in the 1200-block of Grant St. Inside, they found the missing pieces of the ring.

“Having a break and enter in your home is traumatizing, and we’re glad we could offer some peace of mind by returning this ring," said Inspector Brian Fox, officer in charge of VicPD’s Operational Support Division, in a statement.

Robert McKay is facing charges of break and enter, possession of stolen property and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. His next court appearance is April 23, 2014.
