West Shore RCMP were busy with two robberies near the Cineplex Movie Theatre at Westshore Town Centre on Tuesday evening.

At approximately 3:10 p.m. on Nov. 7, police responded to a report of a robbery behind the theatre on Jacklin Road. According to police, roughly seven youth were engaged in a fight and one youth had his backpack stolen during the incident. When police arrived, the youth fled.

Shortly after, with the assistance of the Saanich Police Department’s K9 division, four youth were arrested in the area and the backpack was recovered. Further investigation showed the youth knew each other.

Around 6:15 p.m. on the same day, RCMP received another report of a robbery at the same location. In the second incident, two suspects allegedly robbed another youth and threatened him with bear spray, before they made off with two necklaces and a cell phone.

Police later located and arrested the suspects.

An 18-year-old Victoria man and a 16-year-old youth from Esquimalt were held in custody for a court appearance.

If you have any information about either incident contact West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
