Wind warning continues on Vancouver Island

Wind gusts up to 90 km/hr

The wind warning in Greater Victoria continues Saturday as strong Arctic outflow winds hit the area.

Environment Canada says strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring in Greater Victoria, Lower Mainland B.C. and the Southern Gulf Islands.

The national weather service says winds will gust to 90 km/hour on Saturday.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.

Motorists are being asked to be prepared to adjust driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

The wind warning is continuing for a second day after Greater Victoria was hit with snow on Friday.

Ferries and flights have also been cancelled on Vancouver Island due to the high winds.

BC Hydro is reporting multiple power outages around Victoria with 15,172 people in southern Vancouver Island without power as of Saturday morning.
