Would-be thief escapes empty-handed

7-Eleven targeted by knife-wielding man wearing plastic bags over his footwear: police

A man brandishing a knife and wearing plastic bags over his shoes allegedly tried to rob a 7-Eleven convenience store Monday morning.

Police responded to the 800-block of Douglas St. at 3 a.m., but were unable to find the man who escaped empty-handed, heading south on Douglas Street. The canine unit was called, and police are now going over forensic evidence found at the scene, said Const. Mike Russell, Victoria police spokesperson.

Police would not speculate as to why the man had covered up his footwear.

The suspect is described as white, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is of average build, between five-foot 11 and six-foot. He was wearing a black mask over his face, a black jacket and plastic bags over his shoes. Tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477
