A downtown Victoria yoga studio is hoping to raise funds and boost morale after a break-and-enter last weekend.

A thief entered Yoga Shala at 1322 Broad St. some time after closing Jan. 18 and stole cash, a debit card machine, computer equipment and a cellphone, said acting manager Maddi Lussin.

“It’s been really hard on us. We’re an independent business and December is just traditionally a slow time. To have this happen in January, it’s hard,” she said.

VicPD Const. Mike Russell said officers found no forensic evidence at the scene and no suspects have been identified.

The yoga studio has leased the Broad Street location since 2002 and hasn’t been the victim of theft in the past, Lussin said. Yogis and staff are now hoping to organize a music and yoga fundraiser evening by partnering with a willing venue.

“We’d love to find a venue where we can exchange services, offer some yoga passes or do some sort of trade,” she said. “And we’d like to do it sometime soon to pick everyone’s spirits up a bit.”
