Young Vancouver Island scientists show and tell at UVic

University of Victoria hosts students for 50th annual Vancouver Island regional science fair

Kids from across Vancouver Island showcase their best ideas in science this weekend during the 50th annual Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair.

Since 1962, students on the Island have pitched their projects. Many students have moved on to national competitions and careers in science. The fair, organized by the Society for the Advancement of Young Scientists, is one of 14 regional science fairs in B.C.

Winners have the chance to bring their experiments, innovations and studies in engineering and computer sciences, life sciences, health sciences, biotechnology, earth and environmental science and physical and mathematical sciences to the Canada-Wide Science Fair May 12 in Charlottetown.

On April 15 and 16, students from Grades 4 through 12 will meet in UVic’s Elliott Lecture wing with more than 150 projects.

The public is invited to view the work on April 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and on April 16, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
