December 25, 2019
Hazel passed away peacefully in her 95th year at the Oxford Care Home, Abbotsford, BC, on December 25, 2019.
Hazel was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Fred, in June 2011 and her parents, Merle Havens (McEachern) and Lloyd Havens. She is survived by her sons Lewis (Caroline) and Barry (Mary Ellen).
Hazel was a ray of sunshine in this world, a smile always on her face and never a harsh word for anyone. She was born in Crossfield, Alberta to a farming family. After a brief career working in a bank in Calgary she met and married Fred and started their family. Fred’s work career prompted moves to Regina, Richmond, BC and finally to Victoria BC, where they lived for many years. After retirement they divided their time between their homes in Victoria and Phoenix.
Later in life they moved to Abbotsford, the home of their son Lewis.
Fred and Hazel believed in giving back to the community – they were active church members wherever they lived and very active in Rotary International with Fred serving, with Hazel at his side, as District Governor for one year. They, through example, instilled the value of community service in their sons.
Many thanks to the staff of the Oxford Care Home for their care and caring.
