Battery swap better than power stations

Electric vehicles could swap out empty batteries for charged ones

Re: Pitch made for plug-in power (News, March 28)

The idea of increasing the number of plug-in power chargers, especially tax-subsidized stations, makes no sense to me.

Why can’t the automotive industry and government(s) get together and standardize on a common battery specification?

That way, rather than having vehicles parked at garages for hours as they recharge, when the vehicle runs low on energy it just goes goes to a gas station. There, the depleted batteries could be swapped for fully charged ones in similar fashion to how empty propane tanks are currently exchanged for full ones.
