It is reassuring your headline echoes my sentiments about Mr. Harrison’s presentation critiquing the methodology of the housing strategy exit survey questionnaire.
I had received a copy of Mr. Harrison’s presentation prior to the meeting, had seen it posted on the North Saanich Council website and had heard Mr. Harrison’s views on this matter at a previous Committee of the Whole meeting. Since I was elected, Mr. Harrison has been consistent in his opposition to the North Saanich Housing Strategy.
My objection rested on the issue of council meeting protocol. Prior to the meeting of Feb. 3, Mr. Harrison’s presentation was inserted inappropriately, in my opinion, in the period set aside for petitions and delegations. This period is provided for various bodies such as the Airport Authority, the CRD, B.C. Ferries, the Flavour Trail and the RCMP to make presentations on matters that are new to council.
Mr. Harrison’s presentation did not contain a petition, nor did it represent a delegation.
I invite Peninsula News Review readers to visit the webcast broadcast of the North Saanich council meeting of Feb. 3 to decide for themselves the merits of our decision. I encourage all citizens to attend North Saanich council meetings and to play a part in our democracy.
