Phillip Wynne’s response to this article (Letters, Aug. 28), matches our experience.
Our group of residents on Foul Bay Road and Granite Street have been trying for years to get some action from Oak Bay to make Foul Bay safer, slow down traffic and install a crosswalk. The district is conspicuous by its inaction and reluctance to slow traffic. Bike lanes? Forget it.
The contrast with Victoria is glaring. With new bike lanes on the south portion of Foul Bay, roundabouts throughout areas such as Fernwood and new crosswalks in many places, Victoria is following up on its policy of placing pedestrian safety and bicycles first.
Strangely, there is a Centennial Trail crossing Foul Bay at Brighton Avenue, but no crosswalk. It might slow down traffic, the average speed of which is closer to 50 or 60 km/h in this 30 km/h zone. I guess we have to wait until someone is seriously injured or killed before anything is done.
