Don’t bet on amalgamation

Logic and common sense will not convince them to relinquish their small empires

Hats off to Eric Driller for his excellent letter, A few ideas to enhance the Saanich Peninsula (PNR, May 7). He makes practical, realistic and forward looking suggestions.

But here is the rub: the implementation of his ideas requires the amalgamation of Sidney, North and Central Saanich as he points out.

That’s a non-starter. Our local elected officials have demonstrated time and again they will fight to maintain the status quo.

Logic and common sense will not convince them to relinquish their small empires, even if it means the Peninsula will not be able to reach its potential. Sad.
