Find out what classic really means

The weekly Motoring section column by Alyn Edwards is boring and out of touch

The weekly Motoring section column by Alyn Edwards is boring and out of touch!

He admits that he has not been to Vancouver Island for months (it could be years) and his subjects reflect this.

He talks of classic cars but seems to concentrate on vehicles from the last few decades, almost exclusively hot rods and practically nothing that is historical or important and usually from Vancouver.

Of the 20,000 motorcyclists here on the island, many of whom own, ride and collect vintage machines, there is never a word.

I wrote to him and pointed this out. Mentioned that a Cobble Hill restorer Jim Walters, who ran a famous restoration shop in Victoria for years and won the Round the World giant rally in a 1939 Packard that he had restored, was worth contacting and writing an article about.

The rally was in headlines all over the western world. He recently entered a pre-First World War giant fire engine for the Paris-Peking rally.

Again, not a word.

Time for someone who understands what classic means and has a wider vision.

All my various enthusiast friends and various club members agree!
