It’s time to stop the ‘uglification’ of Oak Bay village

Having recently moved close to Oak Bay village, I was horrified to encounter the proposed proliferation of further four-storey condo block developments at the avenue’s east end.

This insidious intrusion of a quiet residential area by rezoning for multiple dwellings must be halted before it changes the face and life of our municipality to resemble that of the wall-to-wall concrete downtown.

It’s important that this thirst for profit opportunities by developers be resisted by council as it does nothing but disrupt the lives of those established here, besides destroying long established vegetation and wildlife in the area.

Why do we need this increased density and – to coin a new phrase – the creeping uglification of the pleasant surroundings in which we live? Speaking for many others, I hope council can reject this push for so-called progress and not repeat the policy of past administrations that have allowed some of this to happen.

Increased density brings increased pollution and other well documented problems which nobody needs. Please put an end to it while we still have the chance by preserving the space peace and beauty we have around us.
