LETTER: Cannabis isn’t a cure-all

LETTER: Cannabis isn’t a cure-all

Mommy’s Inside Voice columnist Amie Jay appears to have replaced one bias against cannabis for another bias, embracing cannabis as a panacea for many diseases.

There is no doubt that cannabis holds promise for some medical problems and hopefully funding will be available for quality research. I believe that it is irresponsible to say that cannabis can shrink brain tumours and other cancers.

To advise it for severe depression would also be unwise as some users report increased anxiety and depression. THC has very potent psychoactive side effects (getting high) that many patients don’t want from a medication.

Keeping an open mind does not mean switching off our brains to our biases.
