LETTER: Pier shouldn’t be top priority

I am only a temporary resident but, in line with Coun. Wainwright’s notice of motion, it would seem that serious monetary, not emotional, consideration must be given to the priority of the pier relative to other, more existential, needs.

I am only a temporary resident but, in line with Coun. Wainwright’s notice of motion, it would seem that serious monetary, not emotional, consideration must be given to the priority of the pier relative to other, more existential, needs.

While the pier may have historic attraction, its current function could easily be duplicated by relocating the two buildings onshore. Is it really worth spending millions of dollars on renovation when other needs, more pressing with climate change – particularly raising seawalls to withstand rising sea levels – could attract government grants?
