PENINSULA LETTERS: Intersection not ideal for races

The bottom line is that the intersection of East Saanich, Central Saanich and Island View Roads is not well engineered for bike races

Father’s Day weekend rolls around and, as always, the bike races are on.

Central Saanich Road is part of this route — flag people stand at East Saanich Road near the intersection of Island View Road to stop traffic as cyclists cross the intersection.

First, let me say, cycling is a wonderful exercise and hobby.

Young and old can participate in this activity and it could even be the answer to the country’s weight problem.

However, we all have an agenda, and many of us are volunteers with schedules to meet, especially on that particular weekend.

To have to wait in your vehicle while a bunch of racers cross the road is one thing.

To continually wait for extended periods of time while a few stragglers way down the road catch up, is another.

The bottom line is that the intersection of East Saanich, Central Saanich and Island View Roads is not well engineered for bike races like this one.

And by the way, before the protesting volley of letters arrive, I too am a cyclist.
