Oak Bay has allocated approximately $500 to kill each deer. With the 25 it proposes to cull, the amount will be $12,500.
It has been shown that culling any number of deer will not reduce the herd and in future there will be more culls. How many thousands of taxpayer dollars are we going to be spending over the next few years to kill innocent animals? Our tax dollars could go to better use.
Culling is not the answer. New road signs, enforced speed control, fencing and education are far better options.
