Victoria councillors should pay for parking

Eliminating policy allowing free parking downtown could add to city coffers

Re: Parking Dilemma (News, Aug. 16)

With the police and politicians taking up parking spaces in downtown Victoria, I don’t expect too much from city council to change the policy.

This policy costs city taxpayers about $70,000 per year.

I asked the mayor about this once, and I was told it was part of their compensation.

Maybe if the mayor and council paid for their parking that would help city coffers.
