Metchosin’s cricket team hopes to finally host a game on its own pitch this month wearing new gear.

The club practised at home but didn’t host a single game because of the condition of the cricket mat last year. Recent dry weather, renewed hopes to have the repairs done for this weekend’s May 12 home game against the Alcos A team, according to team captain Blair Boardman.

The other big change this season across the Victoria and District Cricket Association is uniforms.

“This year for the first time we’re moving from playing in white to playing in coloured clothing,” said Boardman said. “I guess it’s the trend now … It doesn’t change the game itself I don’t think.”

New uniforms are in order for the team made up of players from Metchosin, Sooke, Colwood and beyond.

“We have a pretty healthy number about 20 players,” Boardman said. “We’re always looking for new guys.
