Dodgeball teams compete for charity

Proceeds from Victoria-sponsored event fund the city’s Campership program

The City of Victoria is looking for competitive and casual dodgeball athletes to duck, dip dive and dodge for charity in the 10th annual Victoria Dodgeball Championships.

Proceeds from the event fund the city’s Campership program, which helps Victoria families send their kids to summer camp.

The championship typically sees 25 to 35 co-ed teams hit the court, spread across the competitive, recreational and corporate divisions.

The event was able to raise $10,000 in 2012, and the city hopes to see similar success this year in order to reach its goal of sending 100 kids to summer camp.

Teams are made up of six to 12 players, ages 19 or over, with prizes for the team with the best costumes. Trophies will also be awarded for the winners of each division.

Registration is $30 per player and open until Aug. 20.

The Victoria Dodgeball Championships will be held at Royal Athletic Park on Aug. 23, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To register, please call the Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre at 250-361-0732.
