WHL in the Salmon Kings family

The Victoria Salmon Kings sent a buzz through the hockey community when they made a major announcement Wednesday.

Indeed, the hiring of former Victoria Seals owner Darren Parker to the RG Sports and Enterntainment team is a helpful step for the Salmon Kings. However, despite Parker’s ties to the WHL – dad Russ is the owner and brother Brent the president and governor of the Regina Pats – Parker’s role is not to help the organization pursue a WHL team, something widely speculated recently. Rather, Parker was appointed senior vice president, sales and marketing for the Salmon Kings.

“I’m here to help put bums in the seats for the Salmon Kings and to get trade shows, other things for the arena. Let the corporate community beware, I’ll be coming round.”

Parker did say he’s been sleeping better since dissolving the Victoria Seals of the Golden Baseball League.

Rumours flared again in Chilliwack this week that the WHL’s Bruins are indeed going to be relocated to Victoria for the upcoming season.

The Victoria Salmon Kings are in action tonight (April 1) and tomorrow versus the Alaska Aces at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
